Lake Saura

Saura is a coastal area of the Caspian Sea, where a peculiar black pearl of the Mangyshlak Peninsula, a small freshwater lake of Karakol, is hidden in a small canyon. The depth of the lake is not known, but it is impressive and allows relict species of the marsh turtle to live here.

On the highway leading from Aktau to Tupkaragan district, a column with the inscription "Saura" rises, and then, like in a fairy tale, three roads: left, right and straight. The main thing is not to be mistaken, since the right road leads to the Saur gorge. Kilometers of the desert. And suddenly the abyss with the age-old green willows, whose trunks under the influence of time curved and changed, like roots. Dense thickets of crack willow, which are popularly called Kazakhstan lilac, accompany the traveler throughout the gorge. A mint ... Its pleasant aroma in the traveling tea of travelers excites the thin trickles of memories. Having overcome the distance along the winding trail, you see at the end of the gorge one of the wonders of the stingy Mangistau nature - Lake Saura.

An amazing lake - like a bowl filled with spring water. Small trickles flow into a lonely lake from different sides, filling it with life. The marsh tortoises dwell take shelter here, not intending to be friends with desert turtles, content with the water spaces of a small lake. This lake is surrounded by steep stone walls of spherical shape on three sides, like a shanyrak, about fifty meters high. Saura gorge beckons with its mystery. Imagine, a fresh lake near the salt sea! Connoisseurs say about the direct connection of this lake with the sea. A little off the coast of the sea is covered with silky sand. The bottom is marine, sandy, flawlessly smooth. And surprisingly, there are a lot of huge cockleshells, not yet crushed by the wheels of civilization and human feet. Small lakes glisten like silver under the sun; they formed from the sea tides. There are crayfish, shrimp - lovers of clean beaches.
